  1. INTRODUCTION
    Flowing through the heart of western Nepal, the Babai River is one of the country’s most serene and untouched waterways — a hidden gem for nature lovers, anglers, and adventure seekers alike.Originating in the Siwalik Hills of Surkhet District, the Babai meanders gently through the lush forests and grasslands of Bardia National Park, one of Nepal’s premier wildlife reserves. Its tranquil waters and unspoiled surroundings create an  extraordinary setting for fishing, rafting, and wilderness exploration. The river is best known for the legendary Golden Mahseer (Tor putitora) — a powerful and highly prized sport fish revered across South Asia. Fishing along the Babai provides a rare opportunity to cast lines in an untouched natural environment surrounded by dense forests, diverse birdlife, and occasional sightings of wildlife such as deer or elephants along the riverbanks. With its combination of scenic beauty, rich aquatic biodiversity, and peaceful camping sites, the Babai River stands as a perfect destination for those looking to experience authentic wilderness fishing in Nepal.

Itinerary In Detail

  • 1: Arrival to Kathmandu (1,400 m / 4,592 ft.)

    Arrival at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. Meet with the representative, assistance with all formalities while border crossing and transfer to hotel. After welcome refreshments, a short briefing.
    Rest of the day is free for leisure.
    Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

  • 2: Fly to Nepaljung- 50 min & Drive to Chepang Ghat – 70km / 2hrs via Bardiya National Park.

    After an early breakfast, take a scenic morning flight to Nepalgunj, located in the western lowlands of Nepal. From there, enjoy a drive through Bardia National Park, a lush haven known for its diverse wildlife including elephants, tigers, and deer. The journey continues to Chepang Ghat, the starting point of your river adventure. Upon arrival, the crew will set up the first riverside camp.
    Dinner Camp; Overnight camp.

  • 3: Full day rafting & fishing.

    Today marks the official start of your Babai River expedition. After breakfast, embark on a full day of rafting and fishing through the crystal-clear waters of the Babai. The river offers a blend of gentle stretches and exciting rapids, perfect for both adventure and relaxation. Stop at prime fishing spots throughout the day to cast lines for species native to the region. Lunch will be served along the riverbank. As the sun sets, the group will camp along the riverside, enjoying a warm BBQ dinner by the campfire.

  • 4: Full day rafting, fishing & Wildlife Spotting.

    Wake up to the sound of flowing water and birdsong. After an early breakfast, continue rafting and fishing through some of the most productive and scenic sections of the Babai River. These areas are known for their abundance of fish and picturesque surroundings, framed by jungle-clad hills. The day is spent exploring, fishing, and soaking in the tranquility of the wilderness. In the evening, return to camp to relax, share stories, and enjoy another hearty riverside meal.

  • 5: Full day rafting, fishing & Wildlife Spotting.

    This morning, return toward the main camp area for a day focused on wildlife spotting and relaxation. The Babai Valley is home to diverse flora and fauna—keep an eye out for monkeys, exotic birds, and possibly even glimpses of larger wildlife from Bardia’s ecosystem. There’s also time for additional fishing or exploring nearby trails. As night falls, enjoy a peaceful evening around the campfire with freshly prepared local cuisine.

  • 6: Arrival at new fishing spot & continue rafting camp; fishing.

    The day begins early with a final round of fishing in the morning’s calm waters. After breakfast, the team will pack up camp and move downstream to a new campsite, offering fresh fishing opportunities and scenic views. Spend the day fishing, rafting, and relaxing on sandy riverbanks, with lunch served along the way. Arrive at the new campsite by late afternoon, where you can unwind before a festive BBQ dinner.

  • 7: Fly back to Kathmandu.

    Enjoy an early morning fishing session before breakfast as the trip winds down. After packing up, drive back through Babai Bridge toward Nepalgunj, where you’ll board your flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for a well-deserved rest or continue onward with your travel plans. This marks the end of your unforgettable Babai River expedition, filled with adventure, nature, and the serene rhythm of one of Nepal’s most beautiful river valleys.

  • 8: Free day in Kathmandu.

    Spend a leisure day in Kathmandu or go on a sightseeing tour around ancient Kathmandu City.
    Eve: Farewell dinner.
    Overnight at hotel.

  • 09: Final departure.

    Breakfast at the hotel. Free time until final departure transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport.
